Hey, guys!!I've never done a tutorial before so I hope I can get the idea across and it's not too difficult. Of course there are many ways people do fake BG+text and I personally use the Pen tool since it's easiest for me.But I was thinking of a way without the pen tool and I guess, the easiest way and hopefully the first one is just that. There are gifs for some parts to make it easier.
These are for photoshop,I use a very old (CS2,lol) version but it should work for any version.Perhaps GIMP too but I'll have to try that out before I can say it with surety.
Concrit is welcome and please ask any questions if you have. :D

1. BG text using polygonal lasso tool or eraser.

I did this twice and decided to keep both since you can see that being a little rough with the erasing isn't too much of an issue. Use a big eraser and then a small one to get into the small spaces.

Once you set the layer on 'Soft light' or any other, you can save it or try out other things.

3. Using the Pen tool and clipping mask

I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2. I can't do a whole lot in it. I wish I could do like bendy or curved text but it won't let me.

Sorry don't know how to make these smaller in html lol.
