Hey,all! Have not done one of these recommendations in a while. Just this week I watched two really good shows of two very different genres and should I say, I thoroughly enjoyed them a little too much! The Brothers Sun & Shogun.

First up: 'The brothers Sun'.

Synopsis from IMDB: Charles Sun, a Taipei gangster who's settled into his life as a ruthless killer, must go to L.A. to protect his mother and younger brother after his father is shot by a mysterious assassin.

No. of episodes: 8

I went into this show seeing Michelle Yeoh as one of the main cast and boy, did she deliver! She was possibly the best character here. To be honest, it's a very easy watch, funny, quite family-safe I'd say except some language, bloody murders & one almost sex scene that happens off-screen. The fun part of this show were the Chinese and English languages both being used throughout the show.

Charles Sun was a very likeable character from the get go and not just because he's good looking and bakes and enjoys killing.

Bruce is...not a very likeable character but definitely a relatable one I feel. He gets better later on, or at least I could see how his way of doing things was different and interesting as opposed to Charles or their mother.

Mama Sun! WHAT CAN I SAY?! She's not just some old lady even though that's what she seems like on the surface. Her most memorable scene was the diss at Lipton & the one where she is angry about how nobody ever asked her what she wants.

I don't want to spoil anything but it's short enough and all the characters are pretty well fleshed out, the scenes are not dragged, the production is fantastic. Overall, I'd recommend it if you enjoyed movies like John Wick or Rush hour and like seeing Asian American representation on screen with some new faces.

My favourite part is that there's no Awkwafina in this show. No hate to her, but having new faces just made this show so much better!

Next up: Shogun
Shōgun' Review: FX's Lavish Action Samurai Period Piece Reshapes Beloved Original

Synopsis from IMDB:When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village, Lord Yoshii Toranaga discovers secrets that could tip the scales of power and devastate his enemies.

No. of episodes: 10

Listen, someone online said this show has white saviour complex so I was a little skeptical. I swear, either that person has not watched the show or completely missed the point.

This is hands down one of the best historic show I have watched. For something that is only 10 episodes, the plot, characters, drama, politics etc. in the show are on point! It takes place in ancient Japan.

Again, this show has the characters speaking Japanese and English which allowed for authenticity & each character to be that much more complex.
Surprisingly, this show does something I've seen rarely done-ease of understanding. You don't have to go through wikipedia or long reddit threads or other materials to understand the plot. The main character(John Blackthorne) somewhat does the work of a viewer in some ways. He is in a foreign land, not familiar with customs & language etc while pretty much becoming a piece to be used in politics.

The visuals! I can't even!!! The production quality is so amazing!
