Sooo, believe it or not, I have watched maybe like 8-9 Pixar animated movies in my entire life, so this list was not difficult to make at all. XD
5. Luca
I love the scenery of this movie so much! Watching it made me pretty much feel like I’m on a vacation. XD The waters, the kids just playing around and best of all the pasta! Looking at all that pasta made me so hungry, lmao. The beginning also felt a lot like The Little Mermaid as Luca is so fascinated by the world above the sea.
As Pixar does, there are definitely emotional moments and events that happen which make you think ‘ohhh, do these kids realise what they’re doing?’-like the part where Luca and Alberto help Giulia’s father catch fish in spite of being sea monsters themselves! They don’t talk about this again though. The ending of it was sweet and I’d totally watch it again after a long time or with a kid if I had to. :D
4. Brave
I’m always here for some Disney princess-ish characters. Add in the Scotland factor, or any landscape with mountains, stone buildings, castles, ancient architecture and I’m in. Brave has all of that with Merida who’s also a main character with a bow & an arrow. Hello, that’s literally my favourite choice of weapon anywhere! So it should probably have been somewhere around a 1 or 2 on my list. The main thing that took away a bit for me in this movie was the pacing and the slowness. However I do think if I were watching this on a rainy day, when I simply want to be lazy and be on my bed, I’d probably enjoy it more this time.
3. Wall-E
It’s been a good many years since I watched this movie with my best friend. It’s still one of those iconic movies that’s remained with me. The visuals of the movie, the loneliness and the overall melancholic feeling got me attached to Wall-E. It made me want to hug him so bad. And the eyes! OH MY GOSH, the cuteness of Wall-E and Eve’s designs are just out of this world! Lol.
2. Coco
This movie came out when I was not as interested in watching animated movies much so I kind of skipped on it. Then a few years later while on vacation, they had it on HBO so I watched it from halfway through. I was stunned because the story was so touching, so emotional, so colourful! THE COLOURS! OH MY GOSH!
Then being able to relate to many of the concerns and thoughts in the movie, finding that similarity between the Mexican culture and my own Asian one was another part of it that made me want to watch the whole movie. At the same time I also came across a screencap challenge in an icon community where Coco was included, so I watched the movie. TWICE in a row.
The best parts were the colours, the designs, songs and overall homey feeling of the show with the touch of real emotions and relatable scenes for me.
1. Ratatouille
This was and is seriously one of my absolute favourites to pick up when I want something that’s fun and just want the good vibes. The delicious food scenes, the sassy character of Remy and the friendship, the romance in the story and the awesome soundtrack makes me want to book a ticket to France (Yeah, I know, there are millions of reasons to visit France but somehow this is one of them! :3)
In fact, I ended up introducing some younger children to this classic and they absolutely ate it up (pun intended, yes!)
It’s strange that I had more to say about Coco than Ratatouille, but it’s just that when I think of the two, I’d pick up Ratatouille again right now and give it a watch because ultimately it’s the escapism and mix of the artsy style, music, a talking rat and delicious food (listen, those two things should not belong in a sentence together but, yeaaaaah.) that makes Ratatouille on the top of this list.
